Safari
Safari is the web browser supplied as part of macOS. If you've found this site, you will know how to use Safari but here are some tips you may find useful:
- Block Pop-up Windows. To stop most of those annoying adverts that appear when you're browsing. Go to the Safari menu (the word Safari in bold in the menu bar across the top of the screen) and click on preferences and then Web Sites. In the window, find Pop-up Windows in the left column and how to deal with them either globally or on a site by site basis on the right.
- Tabbed Browsing. If you have sites on which you wish to compare data, or even two pages from the same site, you can open each page in a new tab which is like a new window. Go to the Safari File menu and click New Tab or the + sign in the top right corner to add a new one. Enter the address you wish to go to.
- Opening Page. In Safari's preferences you can choose which page is shown when Safari is opened. This can be blank if you wish or any page on the internet. If you use Google a lot, you may like to set Google as the "home" page - but if you type words as opposed to a web address in the address bar, Safari will use your chosen search engine to search automatically; no need to visit Google's home page. You can choose with search engine to use in the Search section of Safari preferences.
- Passwords Safari will offer to remember your log in details - user name and password - for sites you visit that require you to log in. It will even create passwords for you if you wish. You can view those in the Passwords section of Safari preferences.
